Is this a relatively common theme that I have not noticed before on other cars, or is it something new?shelly wrote:About opened crash structure: as we have seen, every little trick to lower base pressure after the diffuser is employed, so also the inside of the crash tube is used as an air outlet (with its own little gurney it seems).
Is it closed? I thought it was open. How does it look from the side?shelly wrote:the inside of the crash tube is used as an air outlet.
I think it's new. There are a lot of neat little optimisations on the Ferrari. Sauber have a fancy crash structure too, I noticed.Giblet wrote:Is this a relatively common theme that I have not noticed before on other cars, or is it something new?
Well, if it's closed (as in it's a pipe) then it could be some outlet, yeah. I guess this might not be as good for diffuser operation though, as it will be at a higher pressure? Perhaps they can use the low pressure zone to improve the internal aerodynamics by providing a bit of suck?Giblet wrote:so it might be partly an outlet for its heat?
could that hole in the crash structure be fed from this tube comming out under the engine cover and going into the crash structure? maybe hot air is fed in from the centrally placed radiator?Giblet wrote:If it is just as simple as gearbox cooling, its still pretty slick. They do have a third radiator mounted in the center rear so it might be partly an outlet for its heat?
I would say both, but mostly driver differences, and remember that alonso already drove a front pull-rod car in 2001 so he may know better how to handle it.Crucial_Xtreme wrote:Trackside observations: ALO making the FER look a lot more stable in corners than MAS did yesterday. Improved set-up, or driver difference?

The F2012 was fitted with a new floor for todays testing as well. Alonso is out with the V shaped wing today also. Still lots of things to get on top of. Good news that it looks more stable. )
Not sure if this has been commented on already, but this picture really shows how little forward structure there appears to be for the ferrari roll hoop. There aren't any of the typical forward legs to the chassis, and I can't beleive it's so far back that it is all faired in ??Lorenzo_Bandini wrote:Alonso does the same stuff than Massa, Ferrari put some modifications on the back of the car ( diffuser, floor )and they does some aero test at constant speed
