Ferrari F2012

I think the inner carcass has temp sensors anyways

Is this a relatively common theme that I have not noticed before on other cars, or is it something new?

Is it closed? I thought it was open. How does it look from the side?

Anyway, I agree in that is will might make a little more DF for the diffuser with that little loop hanging down and a little more drag too I would guess. Also, if it's open, it will cause less restriction to the aero components areound it (beam wing, for instance) so you might get that drag penalty back anyway.

I think it's new. There are a lot of neat little optimisations on the Ferrari. Sauber have a fancy crash structure too, I noticed.

If it is just as simple as gearbox cooling, its still pretty slick. They do have a third radiator mounted in the center rear so it might be partly an outlet for its heat?

Well, if it's closed (as in it's a pipe) then it could be some outlet, yeah. I guess this might not be as good for diffuser operation though, as it will be at a higher pressure? Perhaps they can use the low pressure zone to improve the internal aerodynamics by providing a bit of suck?

Trackside observations: ALO making the FER look a lot more stable in corners than MAS did yesterday. Improved set-up, or driver difference?

The F2012 was fitted with a new floor for todays testing as well. Alonso is out with the V shaped wing today also. Still lots of things to get on top of. Good news that it looks more stable. :))

Ferrari changed both suspensions this year so it's normal we see the car looking better and better.

could that hole in the crash structure be fed from this tube comming out under the engine cover and going into the crash structure? maybe hot air is fed in from the centrally placed radiator?

or do you think this is just shielding for the DRS actuator cables? it does seem a bit too thin for an air conduit.

I would say both, but mostly driver differences, and remember that alonso already drove a front pull-rod car in 2001 so he may know better how to handle it.

It's mostly a setup change. Ferrari have a few updates, change to the floor, diffuser, and to the software of the car.

Well, at least the car it's responding to the changes apparently in a good way. They went more for aero testing with Massa, now they are more with the mechanical part with Alonso it seems.

Alonso does the same stuff than Massa, Ferrari put some modifications on the back of the car ( diffuser, floor )and they does some aero test at constant speed :)

I know this isnt very technical but the paint job on this new car is really really glossy. I've never seen a car with such a reflective sheen.

How much is an IR camera? Anyone want to chip in before the 2nd test? :D Would love to follow up on all those Ferrari cooling rumours.

Not sure if this has been commented on already, but this picture really shows how little forward structure there appears to be for the ferrari roll hoop. There aren't any of the typical forward legs to the chassis, and I can't beleive it's so far back that it is all faired in ??
