Vodafone McLaren MP4-27 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Probably. I also doubt if the deflection is nearly so neat as what's shown in that diagram. I bet that the exhaust looks more like a vertical sheet than it does a line, where only a part of the exhaust is pulled down.

Any experts on the Conda effect. I question whether it is applicable if the flow in not initiated at a tangential angle. What I am getting at is the body surface at the exhaust tip must be at an angle of 15 degrees per the rules. This is an angle, not a radius. All the examples of Conda effect systems I have found are at least 0 deg.

Could this McLaren channel just be an form of a 15 degree cone to control the expansion of the exhaust flow? Keep a narrow focus as long as possible?

I'm pretty sure the exhaust outlet curves and begins tangent to the exhaust pipe.

But it can not per the 15 deg cone requirement. The angle forms at the very edge of the exhaust pipe opening. A distinct angle with no blending. I think this prevents the Conda Effect.

Don't forget you're mandated to have a perpendicular cut in the exhaust pipe too - of a controlled diameter

wow...it may be CGI but that's the best look at the 'snow-plough' I have ever seen.

I didn't realise it compacted the flow down like that

It's just some news company's random 3D model, and not a very accurate one at that.

This appears to be the pre testing "plastic" car. Look at exhaust outlets. Totally different shape and size to those tested.

Their RB8 model has an 2010 diffuser and this MP4-27 model has the 26 rads still inside it. They aren't accurate and just used for demonstrative purposes.
