Mercedes AMG F1 W03

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

If you bothered to check the last 2 or 3 pages you'd know Merc did it too.

The way I see it, it's not a "PLATYPUS" anymore but, it's more of a "THE MOSQUITO" from my point of view, is it?.

Something about it looks doggish. Must be the thin nose the return of the chunky but tub and the burn marks.

The car also has almost the same design details as the W02. Details as in sub features, like the air intake, radiator intake, the way how the tub looks etc.

Lotus will whip these guys. Mercedes isn't ready yet.

New to the sport eh?

They use inters/full wets on installation laps/ during straight line tests. The primary objective IMO is to save tyres. Here's the C31 at JerezImage

From the sound of this thread as well as the previous one, I'd say most of us consider it a positive that Merc went for evolution instead of revolution.

But hey... if you prefer to think burn marks are a bigger problem than having to pack up and leave in the middle of testing, because of a fundamental flaw in both of your chassis, that's your prerogative.

burns are there for a reason you know. Mercedes has a way of giving you guys hope every year. You all fall for it then reality hits. The car doesn't look cohesive.
Still has the honda genes in it.
The first race is the real eating of the pudding anyway, but lotus is not to be underestimated.

No doubt about it....Mercury suspension in action!
Yeah...i dont know about that guys...it might just be the timing of the photo...

It really amazes me how this team is able to attract the greatest of both extremes, blind hate or blind love/optimism. Personally the more teams up front the better but i'm not going to count any chickens until Melb q3...if not the first European races.
There are no issues with chassis design with lotus. One chassis is perfectly fine.
There problem is more of a manufacturing fault than a design problem.

I dont hate mercedes, but i dont love them either. The car looks like the caterham, nice effort but still not very cohesive like the mclaren or the ferrari.
In fact i'll go out on a limb and say the force india will be whooping this car as well.

I like how clean and spacious the rear is, but that's about it.
I differ from the view that one chasis is fine. James Allison said the below

James Allison, Technical Director:
“Before we were due to fly chassis E20-01 out to Barcelona in replacement of chassis E20-02 - damaged this morning - we ran a series of simulations at the factory based on the data provided by our brief running on track today. As a result, we were able to identify an area which requires some additional work. It will be more productive for us to carry out these modifications to both chassis at Enstone rather than send E20-01 out to this week’s test. We’ll put the right measures in place and we will be able to fix the problem before next week.”

If the one chasis is good enough why would it be scheduled for modification?

If Mercedes are in trouble because of burnt paint, I wonder what ringo makes of McLarens burnt floor....
More could have been done.

I have to say that Ross and the drivers have been looking ever so relaxed and happy. Ross's statement in the video above that they are where they wanted to be with the car is, I hope, a big clue that they have a winner. A team can sand-bag all they want but it's harder to fake emotions.

Let's see how Nico does tomorrow. Maybe he'll pick up where Michael left off, And we can see some more progress.
