Vodafone McLaren MP4-27 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It's the front right that seems worn though.

Pictures originally posted on autosport forum, not seen any mention over here but thought they may be of interest. Autosport forum member ATM_Andy (who may be a team insider), reports they are for "Longitudinal and transversal dynamics, Slip Angle & Ride height."

It's a cable carrying sensor data from the front wing

Regarding the photo above, I love the way the top of the nose spitter is aligned with the underside of the side pod inlets. You can just see the flow going from one to other, almost.

Yeah, they built that whole rig for a whopping one morning's worth of tests last year.

What I'm surprised that we haven't seen is an alternate exhaust.

Actually, I'm surprised that we haven't seen any A/B testing of any bodywork whatsoever.

Quite big for a gurney.

Airflows through this gap to create the distinctive contra rotating airflow behind the gurney. Again this has the same effect as creating a larger diffuser exit and hence creates more downforce.

No, not the gap, I mean the extension at the top.

That link explains why.

[Apart from the low-pressure bit - a gurney is a momentum mixing effect rather than pressure (at least, in the vertical sense here).]
