Vodafone McLaren MP4-27 Mercedes

Is that an optical allusion, or is the right pod completely closed off?

And is it just me or is the front right endplate actually slanting upwards?

Look at the angle of the front wing. For comparison here's the RB8 where the wing points down matching the rake of the car. The McLaren wing bends backwards like not other car.

I would be inclined to say that it's one of the many optical illusions we see posted ;)

You can clearly see the underside of the wing which should be impossible unless it was flexing backwards. The did it last year as well when we saw the supports start to separate at high speed to lower the AOA.

Edit: Oh sorry you may have been replying to Dan.

It's never looked like that before.

Optical illusion, you are seeing the side of the car preceding the sidepod duct.
Became a McLaren fan in the late 70's when I ended up laminating their Kevlar nosecones.

Yes.

Can you think of a material dense enough and hard wearing enough to break with that can dissipate enough energy into the air to cool itself from 800°C to air temperature within the space of a minute?

It's a sign of a good brake cooling system that keeps them from getting too hot on the track and loosing too much in the pits.

Not that we have any comparison pics to show if McLaren is particularly good at this of course.

Now that front wing pitch is definitely interesting AND new. I think there's something different going on with the wing pylons compared to last year.
