Ross is saying its not worth very much time. Well we all know that's not the case, It is on there for a reason lol. But I think he is being very clever with his words.
I remember a lot of teams on team radio at Malaysia were complaining about the speed of the rear wing would come back down after coming off a long straight they were talking about the instant balance shift.
now If someone can tell me how much D/F they are removing when the DRS is activated. I would say the wing goes to 0 degree , and if that is like 100kg of down force then yes that is a huge balance shift. Especially in say monza or even china when you come off DRS and you have to enter those long high speed corners.
so this is where I see the Merc gaining the advantage, is when they stall the front wing as well, they keep a better aero balance. if you get what I mean. so if they remove D/F off both wings at the same time. I see this system as being a massive help in keeping the D/F balance better. I think that is what the system is worth, not so much time. But it gives the drivers more confidence etc/ as opposed to just better lap time, Drivability is just as important . no? .
I know its a bit of a novel what I wrote, but who agrees with me?
+1 i agree although we really dont have any clue how the system completely works, but that makes a lot o sense. Considering our topspeed in not significantly faster than others, but if you can deploy the drs button earlier tha accounts to faster acceleration, and asyou not noted iit gives more balanced to the car, drivers can confidently push more. Drivability is very important in f1.
