Ferrari F2012

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Their profile would seem to suggest they direct air flow up, but their placement suggests they deflect air flow down.

I saw Scarbs said they're "directing flow downards in the channel formed by the Acer ducts and over the exhausts"

This is what I was thinking. First post in here, I hope that I could have a good contribution to this forum :? The green vector illustrates aditional thrust as a result of the lift vector (blue). The yellow lines illustrating the flow, accoridng to the flo-vis pictures in Barcelona. ALso another problem is the low pressure area above the sidepods, those two vins wil also create vortices in the tip, but no idea what do to with that.

That's what I assumed, given their placement. They play much the same role as the horizontal element over the Sauber's sidepod. I think the only reason why Ferrari hasn't adopted such an element is that the F2012's mirrors also assist in this area. RB8's mirrors are similar in this regard as well.

And welcome fynrd1. Thanks for the illustration.

Let's say that exhaust in Bahrein starts to work!
more rear downforce/less stiffnes in suspension/better traction/more top speed

yes?

Gene said we will test Sauber style exhausts in Mugello, which means the acer ducts will be gone and the cooling system will have to be revised.

I wonder what's the deal with new engine cover. Maybe it is a Bahrein special item?

Maybe they're testing different exhausts at all 3 places?
