This is what I was thinking. First post in here, I hope that I could have a good contribution to this forum The green vector illustrates aditional thrust as a result of the lift vector (blue). The yellow lines illustrating the flow, accoridng to the flo-vis pictures in Barcelona. ALso another problem is the low pressure area above the sidepods, those two vins wil also create vortices in the tip, but no idea what do to with that.

That's what I assumed, given their placement. They play much the same role as the horizontal element over the Sauber's sidepod. I think the only reason why Ferrari hasn't adopted such an element is that the F2012's mirrors also assist in this area. RB8's mirrors are similar in this regard as well.
