I'm sure Red Bull and Ferrari both went to great lengths to design and implement their useless exhaust systems. That was definitely the case for Renault's front-exit exhaust.
Basing a judgment of worth on the vehement protestations of rivals is equally pointless. Protesting is easy; it requires only a word processor and a protest fee.
You seem to have a point there although you suggest that Mercedes had a similar level of complexity as Renault had with the exhaust. Perhaps they were designing something much simpler that can easily be computed with reasonable accuracy with a CFD system? The exhaust with it's thermal implications appears much more complex. McLaren initially also got it wrong.
No, I was addressing this fallacy.

Saying, in effect, "they built it, therefore it must work," is, frankly, just intellectual laziness, to borrow an expression from another member.

I know. That's called originality. I rather like it.
Besides, Daffy Duct has a nice ring to it. And given that the W03's nose is at least evocative of the famous cartoon character, I think I'm gon' stick with it, ok?
(I'm purposefully staying away from the "amplified/non-amplified" portion of the discussion because, first, I don't particularly care and, second, I'm so confident in my view of the device that everything else really doesn't matter at all.)
