You still need a good car but the driver can make a difference here more so then most other tracks.

Monaco Suzuka and SPA are proper driver tracks.

Incredible that Ferrari haven't won in Monaco since 2001. Think of all the championship years since then without a win.

Saying that, Alonso's looked good the past two years - had a chance of winning both in one way or another, I feel - so he may have a chance.

Despite what people say though, I think qualifying's more important than ever, and obviously at Monaco. Wouldn't be at all surprised if Hamilton won it.

A fraction faster then Vettel in the RB7.
Schumacher has the track record no? 2004. Do you say "real" because they changed the layout since?

This was discussed previously, he means the fastest one lap of the track in any situation, the 'lap records' are taken from racing laps.

Surely a joke aimed at covering up his own poor qualifying performances. He's only out qualified Webber on one occasion this season on pure pace. In Spain he had an extra run and burned through his final set of option tyres whereas the team gambled that Webber had done enough on his first run. Looking back to the Q1 times, which were also set on the option tyres, Webber had his usual 0.3 second gap over Vettel.

I bet we´ll see more highlights of Vettel having trouble passing them then.

That's exactly what I was thinking first :D and don't let me go further, I hate this kind of statement, especially from a twice world champion...

You don't need a "good car" per se. A good car is made up of a lot of things including high downforce; mechanic grip is key around this circuit.

A "good car" is a relative term. Around Monaco it is one with good mechanical grip. There are still good/bad cars around Monaco, though we like to romanticize that it's mostly driver making the Monaco difference.

Personally, I think to succeed at Monaco, especially this year is going to be very tricky. A lot of (relatively) late braking, and having a feel for front end (as well as rear) traction as it changes with deteriorating tires. As usual at Monaco quali will be huge. I will not be surprised to see three safety cars during the race. JMHO

Oh you still do.

You will never see someone win in a HRT or Marussia for example. Not even if you had Senna in the car.
Sure you might say wait a minute, Senna won in the Toleman.. (yes i know but Senna really won that one)
It´s not the same as today, driver´s can´t make that much of a difference as they could back then.

So you absolutely 100% need a good car. If you have a bad car you won´t go anywhere, you might put it slightly higher then what another person would but you won´t win races or take poles with it.

you forgot to add something in the equation! 2012 PIRELLIS!! i like the new tires!! they allow a really good driver to make some difference again!! so dont be surprised by a surprise win again!!

That is true however i would expect to see the Sector 3 times to be very similar to Monaco Qualifying.
