So it's only practice 1... but it looks a lot like McLaren have found a big chunk of time there.

I thought most drivers stayed in while others set time while the track was dry at the start? Then they clamored out as the rain started closing in and they realised they'd get less dry runtime.

Like the commentators said...they've looked good early on for years. They hit the ground running because their sim work puts them right on the ball....if they don't get reeled in after FP3, then perhaps they've found something

The rain was intermittent, and Button did his laptime in the first dry spell before any rain. Most the front runners were doing their usual "wait after the first 30 minutes before even considering going out" practice and got caught out. I'm not saying McLaren haven't made a step forward, but I'm saying the session is inconclusive.

Bottas was also on course to top Button's time until he crashed out.

We don't know of fuel loads either.

Only Vergne, Webber, Pic did their best times on Test compound. All other drivers did it on normal medium compound.

if Mercedes gambling on wet RACE like Silverstone and will be dry that mean another fail race for them.

light rain and thunderstorms predicted for tomorrows qualification. 14-15h local. dry sunday though.
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.
