Yes I think that's a better approach than just building a new one - unless they truly understand where their correlation issues lie, then they're prone to just making the same error in the new one.

The talks for new Wind Tunnel continue to amaze me.

Finding a problem in existing installation will be multiple times cheaper (by comparing the same car config in let's say two tunnels) than building a new one.
As I've already mentioned, the rough estimate for new WT is around 40 to 50 million US dollars - why spending that much? Yes, Ferrari is rich team, but this seems too much and overly lavish even for them - remember, Europe is still under tricky economic conditions.

Second option - call external consultants to check what's wrong - sometimes you do obvious mistakes which your mind accepts as true.

And if, just in theory, they want to build new WT - what's the option in the meantime? Loosing championship points or outsourcing?

Whatever the case might be, I'm really interested to understand the final outcome of that saga.

Ferrari would most likely be hiring consultants and engineers from Airbus to check the wind tunnel in regards to possible faults that lay in the tunnel.

Lets see if the news/media groups will find out/catch on that Ferrari will sub-contract an aeronautical engineering firm to diagnose/repair the faults...

Audi is owned by VWG (Volkswagen Group) who sponsors Scuderia Torro Rosso...in small part.

I wouldn't throw out Toyota as a thought though...if the their tunnel is on song and accurate what better people...however hiring a company like the French/German based Airbus would mean faster assistance (24/7) as well as a comprehensive and detailed inspection/report by well accredited and high achieving Engineers/consultants.

I struggling to see what the link is between VAG (Volkswagen AG) owning Audi, the VW badge on the STR and consulting work with Ferrari to fix a windtunnel problem....

All the auto houses use their internal experts as consultants to other members of industry. VW had quite a few of their engineers over at Ford a decade ago when they were developing the Sharan MPV together. Sponsorship of one team is not related to consulting with another. The people involved probably don't even speak nor are based in the same location.

The Toyota tunnel is one of the best around ..so if they can use this (and of course nobody else can use it then!) it should enable them to get on top of their trouble.

Nevertheless The Toyota guys know their tool and pretty sure the specialists there will contribute a huge knowledge transfer -even if its only showing what Ferraris equipment leaves on the plate ...

the current tunnel was conceived 1996 and constructed 1996-1998
