That does look like blocking, but not intentional.

Too bad for Alonso.

Someone here said (Sorry don't remember who it is) that in suzuka, its difficult to get everything right.... There's more probability that whoever qualifies at the front row may not win the race always... Its possible that someone might set their car for a 4th or 5th pace grid and end up scoring higher in the race (May not be the exact words but along such lines).... I'm worried about Alonso's position.... Could someone give light on what are his chances...? I couldn't watch the weekend action (Both practice and qualy). Thanks !
Finishing second is being the first one of losers....

The hairpin has multiple entries that can deliver a lap. Vettel's enter differ from Alonso because they have different style and are in different cars with different set ups.

The question is, how much time did it cost Alonso? Clearly nothing since no action was taken. The video of Alonso clearly shows he did not lift and lost no time....

I think both are doing the maximum to get points here.
Vettel slowing down and blocking a bit to disturb the run of Alonso.
And Alonso complaining about it.
Both are right to do it, playing with the rules.
Then there are the stewards interpretation, and that it is other story.

I'm not sure but it looks to me like a slower moving RedBull with a driver looking it his mirrors, keeping well left on the track so as to not impede the unsportsmanlike Alonso.
Alonso looks indecisive but doesn't lift so how was he held up? Must have be handicapped mentally...

Another notch on the Alonso belt of cheap tricks.
I don't think so. Vettel was clearly on the ideal racing line, driving slowly! Clearly he prevented Fred of following the optimal line at the optimal speed and braking at the right point. Should have been a penalty. Vettel must have been very much aware that other drivers were completing their fast laps and be more careful where and how he was driving on his in lap.

There was 1 here last year (can't remember what for). In 2010 there was 1 for the debris left by the crashes at the start, and one towards the end of the race after Rosberg crashed. In 2009 there was 1 after Algusuari went off after 130R.

Vettel has been very unlucky in this championship. Two alternator failures. The penalty for overtaking button off track. Penalty in monza (same as DNF from alternator), and a drive through in spain for not closing DRS after schumacher incident. Malaysia was the only mistake on vettels behalf this season when he clipped karthikeyan front wing and had a puncture. Alonso was taken out in one race (spa). Vettel should be way ahead in championship. Hamilton has been equally unlucky.
I don't really see how the penalties in Hockenheim and Monza were unlucky. They were not outside Vettel's control and he clearly broke the rules on both occasions.
Alonso's established his lead in the championship due to the weather. I believe three races in a row from germany to hungary and malaysia included at beginning of season where he did well because of his wet weather skill shining through. Thats a compliment to his driving but alonso has been anything but unlucky this season.
Well there's only been 1 wet race out of the 14 so far. Germany and Silverstone qualifying were wet and they helped Alonso on his way (especially given the F2012's qualifying struggles) but he still had to deliver on the dry on Sunday, and that's when the points are handed out.

Vettel did make Alonso have to adjust his entry, if you notice, Vettel takes a much wider entry. Everyone knows that you hug the left hand side right before you trail break into the right apex of the chicane, then take as much curbing on the left as possible.

This is all moot point coz already Alonso cannot set the his fastest lap on this particular lap coz of the yellow flag
So even if he was not impeded he cannot/shouldnot set a fastest lap
So thats why the stewards didnt take any action

kind of reinforces my point that theres no set standard for clearing the chicane for faster cars.

anyways even if Vettel escaped a penalty here it would cancel out the unwanted penalty he got at Monza!
So its even now 8)
