"Red Bull have been doing a bit of a set-up change on the front of Vettel's car. There's a thing call the third spring which stops the car touching the ground to support the car in a straight line or under braking. They have done a little change on that. On the Ferrari there is a rumour they have a modified diffuser. They did a straight-line test last week and that is one of the things that would have come out of that. You run the car with a kind of active suspension and you can assess the stall point on the diffuser. I'll see if I can spot it as the car goes out." BBC
I'm pretty sure Alonso did a 1min31.4 just before that, and was more consistent throughout the stint, so I really don't think that's true.FoxHound wrote:Sky reported that Vettel's laps on the longer stint started at 1min33 then dipped to 1min31.2 nearly a second faster than anyone.....
Vettel's lap was without DRS open at all, not sure if Alonso was doing the same. Again it's sector 3 that's the real killer, that's the place that has the longest turns barring the 5-6, and 10-11 combo turns.f1316 wrote:I'm pretty sure Alonso did a 1min31.4 just before that, and was more consistent throughout the stint, so I really don't think that's true.FoxHound wrote:Sky reported that Vettel's laps on the longer stint started at 1min33 then dipped to 1min31.2 nearly a second faster than anyone.....
Suddenly dropping way off the pace like Vettel and Hamilton were doing was always going to prolong the tyre life and allow them to push at the very end, but it's not a very realistic simulation of a race.
They were all doing race simulations at that point, so I'd be very surprised if any of them were using DRS.godlameroso wrote:Vettel's lap was without DRS open at all, not sure if Alonso was doing the same. I disagree. Since Valencia eeryone has been doing variants of the same strategy - and it's always OOP or OPP. Other than Singapore, we haven't seen any other combo, except for OP at Spa/Monza and OP at Canada/Monaco.godlameroso wrote:Then I have a feeling the race will be close and it's going to depend on strategy. Do you do a two stopper? Going option option prime? Or maybe a two stopper consisting of option prime prime so you can really push the crap out of the car. Or do you nurse it home with a one stopper?
