Red Bull RB8 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Yes it is allowed. You can put any geomety you want in the central 150mm slice if I remember correctly

"any" geometry? Or an additional section?

Do you have a pic to show what you mean mate? I'm having some trouble imagining what you mean.

I think anything you want(holes, sections, etc) iirc it is completely deregulated excpet for the minimal surface of the airscoop in lateral view

What about Vettel sparkling for some laps in the end?

Furthermore, the italian TV technical commentator, engineer Giancarlo Bruno, talked about a strange (and maybe illegal) hydraulic device that he discovered in the RB suspension...

the two facts could be connected?

These days it seems everything on RBR cars is deemed as "maybe illegal" :)
Is there a link for us to see what particular device the talk is about?

The reason for the sparks is not necessarily something illegal. IIRC last year (or was it this one?) Hamilton drove with a broken undertray support as a result of going over a kerb (Australia?). And no one raised the illegality issue. The concerns were about is it safe to drive with it scraping the track.

Newey stated that the skid block, which is sacrificial, was loose and trailing on the ground. There was concern that it would detach itself and hit a rear tyre.

Interesting to see that an Italian commentator was able to see something that all the technical wizards scrutinising the car could not find.

Unfortunately i had to turn off the TV at the end of the race; i'm now reading on some blogs that after the race they showed the images of these hydraulic device in the third element of the suspension... so they speculate about a "setting adjuster" (sorry for the bad translation)

I'm also looking for some pics/video

That italian commentator (an engineer) saw that detail in some TV images.
Those images show RB technicians putting a small metal piece, with (what seems to be) an hydraulic link, near the front suspensions area.

do you really think that Newey would say things as they are in these circumstances?

So now it is someone who saw some TV PICTURES , with a small metal piece being inserted, with WHAT SEEMS TO BE a hydraulic link?
The car was scrutinied . Why start rumours?

And as for Newey. He has never told lies before, to my knowledge, so why insinuate he is lying now? It was obvious that the skid block was rubbing. So what? That is what it is there for....to prevent the floor from rubbing the ground. It is not the first car to be seen sparking.

Strange no one else has seen it and strange that it has only cropped up now that Red Bull have found some speed. If they did have some magic device they would have had it on all season and they would have had a massive advantage long before now.

It doesn't surprise me that these desperate soundbites are being thrown out now at this point in the season.

There's certainly no concern over the sparks, I suppose it was debris that Vettel has got. Apart from that, there are small vertical titanium skid blocks which are actually measured for floor's wear.

RB8 looked really gentle on tires (VET), and very fast, obviously, although down on top speed, which was a deliberate move.
What was WEB's KERS issue - overheat? Could not get that during the race.

Yes, overheat.
