"Hey Hairy, is this where the gas hose goes in? *points at fuel hose*"

That would be good for the caption comp section as well :)
If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

Quite obviously a typical Ferrari publicity stunt with all the Ferrari cars and cameras on scene, and the sign "Welcome race fans".

They did it with Schumi very similarly.

What craziness would it be if Vettel DNF's here in Austin, and Alonso gets second place. That would give him a eight point cushion over Vettel going into the final race, and if Vettel wins, Alonso would take the title by coming in second or lose coming in third, and he would get passed by Perez on the final lap, right after Massa wrecks trying to stop him from passing him.

Why F1 cars are so damn fast - Jalopnik are explaining Formula 1 to US people in a series of articles:

Sorry to troll but our typical fan here in the US isn't a Formula Fan and well this helps.. Funny thing is in some countries a dad might explain this to his 3year old son like this.......... In Finland this is common sense... The TIFOSI have this instead of Teaching "A,B,C...." But hey maybe this is the start of Formula 1 glory in the US.. :) would be kool..

Tim, as usual - thanks for the onsite pictures.

My next contribution is here thanks to Tomba who published the link for "Simulating the Austin GP" - I've read the whole article very carefully, and went on the brave road - downloaded and installed the software (license is required) OptimumLap in one of my development environments. I spent some time working on the simulation model, and here's a sample of data for Austing GP - Google Spreadsheet link.

Just a thought after seeing pic grid position of the pole into turn 1, it is such a short distance until the hill climb. The further down the grid, you have longer distance travelled going into the hill climb, which will carry more speed and hence more momentum to climb the hill = faster.

Or the power of F1 engine is too great and make those difference negligible.

What do u guys think? Will the poleman get the disadvantages? CMIIW

Will be pretty interesting to see how things fold out here at the start.

I've thought about this too & I think you're right. Combined with other factors, this potential accordian effect could make for a VERY interesting Lap 1 Turn 1.

I fear that if Alonso doesn't qualify between the first two rows. This breaking point at the start could mean the end of his challenge to win the WC

The line up is pretty good only the US tends to be a Popularity contest.... Well they should have given Schumi a seat...
