vettel lap time is really quick. Is he using the same tyre compound?

Wow, Vettel's result is devastating. I guess he's on different program with the others and doing this as sort of psychological attack.

Are you allowed to have holes in the floor where red bull has? Saw at least 3 of them on Webbers car where the leakage were.

The temperature graph may explain vettel's lap actually... Could it be that they suddenly hit the temp where they could get the tyres to turn on?

i'd say its very much tyre temp related with regard to track temp. The lap was set with the hottest track temp. And a little bit of extra low fuel for some good measure to play the game.

We will get a better reading in FP2

its also interesting his time was mostly gained in sector 3 where he was .9 quicker...

Vettel did some aero tests with his first set. Then used his second set a long time during P1. Short before the end of P1 it seems he slapped on his first set again and did some very fast laps. The track is very slippery and really cold.

I think that's most definitely the case. When they were all lapping together, you saw pretty similar pace from Alonso, Hamilton and Vettel. What with the track "rubbering in" continually and the temperature constantly rising, I don't think that kind of margin is at all representative.

It was extremely interesting to see Vettel's strength particularly clear in S3 and not at all in S1 though. At one stage Alonso did a S1 that .4 faster than anyone in that sector alone, and then proceded to lose .7 in the rest of the lap.

Difficult to make complete sense of for now, but very interesting to watch.

I think the trickiest part of nailing S1 is getting correct line into turn one.
