McLaren MP4-28 (pre-launch speculation)

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I think it is a complete photoshop, or card board boxes under the sheet and maybe just a front wing of a real car.

If its the 28 it'll be on a stand. Macca always have their new motor on a stand at the launches. The 25 was up on one, (I was there) the 26 wasn't because it was on cobbles in the middle of Berlin as I recall but the 27 certainly was with its funny little fake exhaust outlets.

if it is the 28..it has RB style sidepods
IF i Worked at Mclaren I would pile up Boxes and place a sheet over it and let people trip out... Or better yet put a sheet on a car that's 3 seasons old every time.. Gives nothing away like that.. And it is technecly a McLaren under there..

Whatever is under there seems to have the larger testing spec antennae and pitot installed on top of the tub.

Front end is on a stand, rear end looks firmly put on the ground.

Judging by the nose it looks like a high nose to me as well. (i.e. the new car)

i dont think so, both ends are on a stand, it is optical illusion...far objects will look smaller to near objects

Dosnt look like a high nose to me. The stands are fooling your eyes. Im also pretty sure its the MP4-25 as mentioned on the last page.

I suspect most of them are photoshop playthings with manipulated proportions to be visually appealing. Though it does entertain us trying to guess the car(s) they used to start building the image.

Last year's seems so stylised that I wonder if it was a pure photoshop creation without even being based on a real car.

Looks like the 28 to me, different profile around the sidepods to previously released cars that were put under cover. Nose seems narrower, pointier. Dare I say it, reminiscent of the Caterham 2011?

Your rear tire is a midget tire.
For that scale to be correct the car would be 20 meters long if not more.

If you look closely at this image you can see that you have basically cut the rear tire in half.

This is more like it i think.

Edit: i think there might be something on top of the front tires.
Look at the left tire (our point of view) its much lower then the right tire. Definitely something on top of that tire i think.

I dont think theres anything on top of the tyre. The stand is tilted a little.

My favourite time of year, when people who will be arguing over the most intricate little aspect of vortex generation or gas cooling equations spend their days examining PR photos of sheets :D

Deep breaths guys, not long now... :D

BTW I'm emailing/twittering them to ask if they'll tell us what was under there post-launch, maybe I can get a prize out of them for any right guesses, hmm..

Edit; as for my guess, they threw a sheet over whichever post-09 car they had in the lobby that day and pushed it in front of the nicest view they could find for a backdrop. I'm fairly sure the cars in there are normally on the floor, like cars should be of course, so the pedestal is a little weird. Why bother?

This is the MP4-25 used by Lewis Hamilton only for Monza(without F-Duct)!!...This one is at MTC!
I'm quoting this one, he seems to be quite right to me. Only difference is the T-cam

I have to agree. It's almost certainly a sheet over one of the -25, -26 or -27s they have hanging about in the office.
