Lotus E21 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Are you all blind?
  • The side pod air intakes are totally different
  • The barge boards and turning veins are entirely different
  • The front wing is different
  • The nose is a different shape
  • The exhaust system is entirely different
  • The rear wing is different
  • The air intake is different
  • The roll hoop is different
In fact, the only similarity with the E20 I can see is the shape of the side pods, which aren't the same (the undercut is bigger), just similar.
I think you are wrong on every point exept the exhaust and sone tweaks to the turning veins and other minor winglets.

The key aspects of the car are exactly the same as in E20

I'll go search for photos now
It's been a long time since we drove last time, but it has also been a short time at the same time

yeah, on the cgi's
on the CGIs the exhaust is modelled as someone else who was in charge of the CGIs understands it...
not as it is in reality...
also on the CGI's they just bolted on latter spec 2012 wings...
the E20 was one of the best internally packaged cars...why change the sidepods and not refine them?
just because they did it last year doesnt mean they are gonna be doing it all the time
also, the reason the unveiled the R31 last year...is because somehow the car should dissapear from enstone on the 5th of February and appear in Jerez on the 7th...please focus on the VERY interesting car and stop the nonsense

  • The side pod air intakes are totally different Those are Jerez tests (2012) intakes intakes evolved in Barcelona tests and in Monaco. These are E20 sidpods IMO
  • The barge boards and turning veins are entirely different those are early versions of E20 parts
  • The front wing is different
  • The nose is a different shape looks the same to me (i posted a comparison)
  • The exhaust system is entirely different obviously (but agian, last year they dared to mold a fake nose and a fake rear bodywork just for the presentation)
  • The rear wing is different
  • The air intake is different
  • The roll hoop is different
same air intake. same chassis

In fact, the only similarity with the E20 I can see is the shape of the side pods, which aren't the same (the undercut is bigger), just similar.
Undercut looks the same IMO.

The new air intake looks really cool. They cut out the complete outer edge. The upper-inner flap is used as a mounting for the turning vanes.

The actual model will have been built by the same people who produce the parts for the car. While they are unlikely to even be final testing parts, they are likely to be fairly close. Meanwhile, the CGI will have been produced by someone paid entirely as an artist, for producing publicity materials. It will differ from the actual car, purely because that artist will not know about all of the details, why they're there, and how they all fit together. They're fairly unlikely to ever have seen the car put together.

Personally, I'd say the model is likely to be much closer to the final car than the CGI.

they always use old wings on launch cars (maybe also on launch cgi cars???), Genii started the nonsense

This is the E20 (maybe chassis #01 or #02) with some parts to make it look like the E21. Waiting for Jerez.

Thanks for posting. It's not the same than 2012. Just look at the lower part. Now it's cut out too. Also the upper part looks different too.

exactly my point...the wings on the launch car are early 2012..on the CGI they are late 2012..
