Lotus E21 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I dont know what is similar to you except some color on this car. Night and day from nose to chassis, then sidepods and rear. You can only say similar is rear wing. Most changes are made where car needed upgrades, end of car, rear downforce.

The black of course makes the differences harder to spot. There are obvious differences if you study the car closely, like a much more undercut roll hoop, the chassis at the splitter is differently curved, the sidepods are a tiny bit higher and the nose too is somewhat higher and flatter (if you think away the bulge under the nose for a second). Overall, it's the exact same philosophy all around the car, just with some optimalisations and red bull ramp.

I agree with turbof1. On first look, the E20 and E21 both look pretty simmilar. But, as turbof1 and I said, the black color makes it really hard for the differences to be spotted. Almost everything is revised or changed. Tweaking, tweaking, tweaking.

=(

was hoping for more agressive design.

Kinda pain to witness 2013 car to suffer on wet track again with such minimal changes.

If they solve the problems in wet, you are not going to see it on bodywork. It's up to suspension or other mechanical settings.

i don't see any changes on rear suspension.

Probably they wanna retain the gentleness of E20 on tyre.

Both front and rear suspensions are revised. I don't know how you can't see this. Just look where are mounting points on this comparsion photo:

Gary Andseron 's view on E21 's rear suspension:

There’s nothing trick here and it’s relatively conventional. Lotus certainly hasn’t gone as far as Red Bull in trying to minimise the disruption of airflow to the Coke bottle.

Different tunnels compared to the RBR, especially their angle... and drive shaft is not covered...

@nasce1 not enough pics yet, but their tunnels are simpler than RBRs

Lotus team trolling with screens to cover their garage. Wondering what are they going to do now or the session is over for them?
