Mercedes AMG F1 W04

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It's testing, stuff happens. It's the first time we've seen a fire like this with Merc, lets see if it re-occurs or not.

Focus on the car, not bashing the team.

Absolutely, the burnt paint is of no issue whatsoever. The team unveiled the car the day before and aesthetics were the top priority and the Team would have wanted to minimise the amount of heat resistant black coating to make the car look as good(silver) as possible. The Team will sort it out in no time.

The failure of the wiring loom and the fuel pump was a bit of a disappointment though. I bet Sauber will have some failures due to overheating at the warmer races this year.

One more thing, still no louvres on the bottom of the rear-wing endplates of the W04.........................

Actually the burnt paint is an issue because it indicates that either production has been rushed, or the cooling issues of previous years have not gone away. That does show that the team has to do some work to fix that before the racing starts. That might be a simple fix (stick on some insulation) or a complex one (bigger sidepods).

This should not be conflated with the fire which is a one-off (so far)

I don't think the whole Day is gone. The Car doesn't look that much damaged.

New Front suspension, new Nose and some cleaning up should do it.

Edit: Ok, seems to be a bigger Problem......

According to "auto-motor-und-sport.de" it wasn't Hamiltons fault. He braked early enough but the rear end failed.
