Lotus E21 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Seems to be a reflection. But i might be fooled by the shadows.
What's very interesting is the size and form of the winglet on top of the sidepods

Looks like they are trying with different exhausts.

Kimi is using Arai. Why would he test Bell just like that?

Can anybody tell me what they were changing during the day on the exhausts?

Looks like there was clutch problem on E21 today.

It is indeed Bell helmet, but I'm so confused by that act/fact. They can switch between brands just like that? Whatever, I would prefer watching Arai when onboard camera is on TV.

The splitter gets even more interesting. Look like it has the tunnels. It is similarly looking to (again) RBR's one. What kind of devic is that under the nosecone, in front of splitter, between the turning vanes. Is that some kind of sensor?

They aren't sponsored by the helmet manufacturer, id imagine Lotus want to see the difference and if it would benefit the overall package having both driver using the same lid.

That's a laser ride height sensor. sometimes you can see the red dot it pojects on the tarmac. Not new to Enstone. Suzuka 2005 AFAIR...

What tunnels do you mean ? the ones placed on each side of the tee tray ? they're there since Sepang 2010. They are fancy in F1 because of Renault since 2010. But actually Sauber invented them and brought them in Barcelona 2009 but ditched them later.
