Mercedes AMG F1 W04

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Very nice shot, showing how much rake Mercedes are running.

You look at the picture

I have a strange pattern with red slot and the material that protects against heat in the gearbox

This is just because they bolted that exhaust on over the coanda bodywork. The little gap is where the body work splits for the coander exhaust slot.

edit: in fact i dont think its a gap just slightly unaligned bodywork.

Now THAT is interesting. Wonder what the gains are with this configuration.

It was just a short Test to evaluate the influence on Tyre Degradation due to the hot Exhaust Gases.

You cann se this in the picture above, which seems to be a hybrid version of the conventional an coanda version. So they install a flow conditioner for the exhaust which should be allowed as it does not effect the direction of the exhaust gases AFTER they exit the pipes.

By the look of things it's running an obvious amount more rake. Tire deg is not as bad as Ferrari's but it's certainly not all that great either, average degredation is probably the best opinion at this point.

It appears that the winglet attached to the endplate is also running a very small cascade inboard as well now. Sharpening everything up aren't they.

Good spot sir! Wings, sprouting cascades, sprouting winglets. I like it a lot.

Compared to the Red Bull. Similar amount of rake on both cars. The front tire cambers looks the same too. Judging from todays times it's not looking too bad at this stage of the test programme plus the car is set up identical to the championship winning car. Rosberg feels more optimistic about this car compared to the previous one. It doesn't look too simple or basic anymore.

Hopefully that's a good sign.

Does the fact that Hamilton is approaching the corner affect the rake, I'm not sure how much f1 cars dive under braking?
