i'm not sure it makes any? are they not a neutral aerofoil shape?
They don't create downforce but they can still be positioned to manipulate the airflow which can affect the performance of the downforce producing elements downstream of them.

There is no constant modification to different parts anymore, the discoloration issues have been solved by those black patches. The only thing "different" from other teams is the necesity for cooling openings on the sidepods.

Very sad to see though that it took them (or MSC) 3 years to reorganise and now MSC is not there to benefit. I would feel very very very sorry for him if MGP fought regularly for podiums this year.
They need those cooling slots probably only because they don't have a huge exit at the back of the engine cover like Red Bull for example.

They're placed behind and above the mainplane so that the effective bi-element airfoil works as a somewhat negatively cambered section.

Is it me or just (on the left side of the diffuser`s edge) the Gurney flap is rounded instead of squared like the right one?
Maybe they are playing around with the exhausts flow and it will end adopting RB double Gurney style.
Seems to be room for lots of development in this area ...

Mercedes have removed the cameras (or sensors?) from either side of the nose and replaced them with strakes a la Ferrari. Is that a different diffuser too?

Its just the angle of the photo. Look closely at lefthandone and you will see the shapedg of the corner. Thecurved par goes forwar, and is obscured by the squared sectionon the right hand side.

Anyone has a picture of the old and the new W04 diffuser? I never noticed that they changed diffuser on the W04 to be honest.

This tells you something.

What it tells you is that Mercedes' engineers have looked at them, and decided that they do not provide the necessary benefits on their car.

What it does not tell you is that you know better than a bunch of trained aero engineers working on an F1 car with a bunch of advanced tools about what a complex aero device does.
Tell me why did it take so long time for those trained aero engineers to adopt coanda exhaust? And even when they did, it didn't work properly, they went back to old exhaust in Brasil.

Oh, here is something fresh just for you:

I'm not saying copying is something every team should do when others present something new, but at least consider it's benefits. And even if they tried to implement it in CFD and wind tunnel, they haven't IRL.

The diffuser looks extremely similar to the W03 one. The only possible difference is that the flow conditioners look as though they're more curved/arc-ed in the XY plane, but perhaps they've always been like that and it's just perspective from these photos.

From what I have seen through testing is that Red Bull-Lotus and Mercedes look pretty solid...

When we see the upgrades Saturday and Sunday then we will know what's what.

Is it me or does Lewis Hamilton look more comfortable at Mercedes? Always seemed uptight at McLaren guessing its their philosophy, Lewis already quoted on how Mercedes have a better driver care mental and physical
