Mercedes AMG F1 W04

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

He might, but he might not.
I think the passage makes it quite clear that such a solution specifically looks for everything. I would not have posted it if I didn't trust it. (I only emphasized that it's not my work, because I don't want credit for it.)

Sure, his solution looks for everything.

But unless he knows specifically what Mercedes are looking for or if they've found what they were looking for, he can't say whether they're doing a bad job or not with it.

What difference does THAT make? (That's a rhetorical question, by the way.)

I still think we are behind the top runners and it will be a marathon not a sprint

Me too, but I hope we will be close to the top teams.

Great shots there.

Can anyone further explain the benefits of understanding front tire wake patterns? Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's not any real way to control that, so I suspect their purpose is to understand precisely what the wake effects and what it doesn't and that's about it. It's not like measuring diffuser wake or some other component etc. I would love to know if anyone has anything further to add to this though.

Even if there's nothing you can do about it, you still need to know where it's going so that you can either avoid it affecting things too severely downstream, or exploit it.

I expect they're also measuring the flow off the inside of the front wing, trying to check that various flow conditions are heading to the places they expect them to.

Well, we can be sure that they solved the reliability problems. Good to see they are collecting a lot of data.
