A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.
They don't have much of a choice. Simulation + Fridays is the only way to do testing due to the rules. Also, I don't see it to be a problem, since the suspension can be replaced with relative ease. How this change ties in with the total aerodynamic of the car (side pod changes, turning vanes, koanda exhaust, etc.) would be the hardest part. We'll see if they take the risk

Thats hole in the hub is nothing new, they had hollow (throw or partially) already...
Look pic of F2012 - China circuit...
EDIT: They just later added the conical cover with two safety elements. Wheel hub (violet color) must be hollow inside because its rotating around axis.
And because front and also rear hub assembly must be 100% stiff on the axis they decide to add conical element after securing the hub on the axis (nut, ring or whatever else)...
After fully assebly of front hub (F2012, after Valencia race)...
I don't know whether Ferrari copied Williams or not, after filtering back to winter testing and watching Felipe Massa's wheel coming off...could possibly explain a buildup of high pressure in the blown ring which could of made it crack/break off the wheel hub.
If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.
