Lotus E21 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The ears are closed, so I guess they weren't bluffing when they said they wouldn't run the DRD until later in the season?

That's not the thightest packaging from what I saw. Lots of free space between cooling inlets and some devices....
It's been a long time since we drove last time, but it has also been a short time at the same time

Not only that, but hints at a strong secondary function (discussed earlier in thread) as why would you take the drag but not the gain?

Or did Disney sign up as title sponsor?

The ears are there because they are build into the chassis (rool-hop). They are not remoable like Sauber's

You don't need efficient rear wing at higher speeds on straights.

However, you could do with an efficient rear wing under braking... when the airbox* is hideously overspilling.

*this is pretty much the design goal of the airbox OML - minimise separation from spillage so flow onto the rear wing is as consistent as possible.

So, by the look of the monkey seat it seems they will test DRD

This looks like this

It's like the nose of the car is angled in such a way as to anticipate aero load.

It goes to show how far ahead these F1 engineers are in that they can design for such details.
