Red Bull RB9 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Anybody else think that the twin strakes with open slot is a substantial design change? Looks like it's introducing the exhaust air below the floor much earlier than before.

I think we're talking about two different things. I'm talking about the two strakes on the floor just ahead of the rear tyre.

I thought I saw something on the first twin strake picture I posted but wasn't sure. Definitely a hole between them. They're obviously trying to get exhaust under the floor. Interesting development.

Yes they are pretty much using the twin strakes to funnel the gases into the hole.
I believe the whole is positioned where the "legendary" Mclaren fan tail was suppoused to be (at least that's what Scarbs drew up and P.Lowe said it was accurate).
And it's brand new on the car because they didn't have it in Malaysia, Redragon is probably reffering to the strakes above the diffuser (those were there since last year).

Sorry, thought you were talking about the two air intakes under exhausts area. I shut up now!

I too thought they had cut the section out between the strakes in order to enable the airflow to enter the Diffuser's outer channel earlier but after much searching it appears they haven't:

I have however mentioned it to Mark to see if he can get some close up's of in Bahrain

According to Ted Kravitz RedBull now have hollow front stub axels:

'Red Bull copy Williams hole in front hub (which itself was copied from RBR's banned vented hub). Vettel's car only'.

Not much. Maybe a tenth.
