Lotus E21 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

There is definitly some electronics inside the tea tray of that E21 too. It's is also much thicker than the Ferrari's, The RBR etc.

dont get much hope on that DRD, specialy on beggining of season, perfromances in other areas are more important in this moment (we know we lack downforce on top teams). Also Lotus never said that DRD is their main priority, as they sayed they would definitly raced with, just maybe. I think Lotus put DRD ears on car for last devolopment stage and maybe as 2014. project when they abandon most of this year car devoloping (under this mean producing new floors, rear-front wings, sidepods boards etc. ). As you know many teams in later stage of season, test their 2014 car bits. If DRD is involved, such system at the end of year could be crucial for championship fight.

I am glad Lotus didnt made same mistake as last year when they changed devolopment path around Germany GP, instead of coanda exaust changed resources in DRD devolopment. Such system cost too much money for devoloping and we know Lotus dont have that good financial background for spending and throwing money around for something that maybe wont work.

I have read somewhere that Lotus are planning to keep testing their DRD*, although perhaps not so much on-track, with an expectation to run it at Silverstone. Apparently they've made some big steps in understanding at their last straight-run tests between Bahrain and now.

* shouldn't have "device" after the acronym, because last D already stands for device I think?

Lotus need downforce so concentrating on a drag reduction system would not be fruitful. They made that mistake last season.

On straights all of the F1 cars have too much downforce  That's the point
It's been a long time since we drove last time, but it has also been a short time at the same time

Lotus seems to be the only front runners that brought little updates.

The straightline test seems to be fine tuning the setup and get the best out of the car.

From what i can see Lotus brought more updates then Merc, and they brought updates that worked compared to Mclaren who abonded a wing and a few other pieces. Same goes for Ferrari who tested and will not run updates.

On the Red Bull i could only see minor tweaks and thats cause they have the best car and dont need updates, just tweaks.

If they can run the DRD effectively, they can run more agressive AoA's without suffering the additional drag, so it does give a good boost concerning DF.

Looks like the vortex generator/conditionner near the rear tire is new. It's curved similar to the Merc one

What an idiotic pile of nonsense and perfectly exemplifies this forum these days. No I don't get your point.....and neither do you.

It's a case of what you put your effort into and what gives you those most gain.
