Are manufacturers able to change engine through years? As we know they can't change anything on current engines.

Development freeze ends, I think.

Toyota!? Really? Do we have a source for this...?

Do you really think that Ant Davidson would still be employed as an F1 development driver for Merc if his Le Mans employers were even considering a return to F1...?

They will have started work on the engines already. If Honda did borrow Mercedes ideas ?
Expect a big fat legal spat between the two, neither side would want that.
What the info McLaren will provide Honda with, will merely inform them of developments that lead to blind alleys
and things that will save time on development. You also have to keep in mind that Mercedes will be keeping a beady
eye on McLaren and limit McLaren's access to sensitive data about the engines.

As for Honda ? Bring it on. It's a shot in the arm the sport's needed in terms of increasing
the competition amongst the engines and bringing the costs down.

To me Honda is over hyped.
I don't think they've the experience to make a better engine than the suppliers in the sport today.
Back in the 80's and early nineties was just that,.. back then.
They don't even have much experience with turbo engines relative to the suppliers we have currently. with the exception of Ferrari.
For Sure!!

As I have already pointed out, Porsche themselves have no interest in the Formula. Not even in the proposals.

How so? Please expand on this. Perhaps Porsche weren't paying attention.

Of course, it's as simple as that. Maybe Todt should've implemented this strategy 3 years ago. Or maybe, more likely he applecart gets upset by changing things to favour 1 party instead of all.

I believe it's already there.

Not sure if Honda will steal Mercedes ideas, maybe the opposite.
The Mercedes V8 evolved from the Ilmor V10, Honda has much more experience with small bore engine design, maybe that was where they failed with their V8.
At one stage or another, they both sourced ideas from Ilmor who were schooled at Cosworth.

I saw a Puegoet V10 in peices and its oiling and cooling seem packaged just like a late Ferrari V10, Ferrari in its V12 heyday built engines completely differently, when Jean Todt came on board, I wonder if a cad disk or a few designers followed??

Paranoia, speculation, at the end of the day it's just an air pump made from exotic material.

I thought IndyCars were V6 turbos.

I was referring to production car, but good point. They do have turbo race engines.
However i feel there's going to be some dependency on production car know how, as it relates to efficiency from turbo engines.
However they've been out of formula 1 too long IMO for them to comeback better than who's already in the game.
For Sure!!

The new power units are going to benefit from high efficiency. Honda has quite a bit of experience with producing efficient burning, high output engines. They also have quite a bit of experience with hybrid powertrains. Most of the Honda turbo work is on Kei cars that only Japan gets. Yes, they may not have as much experience with turbos as some of the other manufacturers, but the turbo is certainly not the only component in the power unit.

It also means they can focus all their engineering efforts on meeting that one team's needs.

Very confused by Button's hints during his recent interviews (in the drivers' interviews from Monaco saying that Honda was just the first to announce), there could be more i guess! Struggling to see who it could be with Porsche and BMW saying they wernt interested :\
