The driver (no pun intended) of success in this scenario is the guy who the 10 chefs all answer to, and who has to take responsibility for the overall theme of the menu and the harmony between dishes. There is no problem with having 10 master cooks if you have 1 master chef.

Whether MGP do, and who that might be (Brawn? Toto Wolffcastle? Niki?) is still obviously open for debate.

Arguably RBR have a similar pool of talent, they just brand it "Adrian Newey and his team" and avoid all this BS.

Mercedes is like the seven kingdoms of Song of Ice and fire, too many kings...

I dont see how Brawn and Lowe can collaborate without colliding in may subjects, Brawn will be out of the team in 2014, I am sure about that.

there is big difference here:Newey is the undebated guru in the sense of Byrne,Barnard,Murray in their heyday. So no internal elbow fighting for supremacy.
Newey in my view has no managing obligations he is completely out of this equation and concentrates only on :defining wishlists for new equipment to utilise the next unfair advantage and conceptualising the next challenger ...which is detailed enough to let the horde of detail designers come up with thes wonderful machines.
I´m sure Newey is not managing anything he is the source of inspiration the free agent the thinker in all this .Marshall and co are the ones who do the managing and orchestrating .

To see MGP introducing IR cameras to complement the IR sensors in Monaco is just another hint at how desperate and unstructured they are.
There was talks and assurements made to fully get on top of the tyre issue about three years ago ...and now they found a
IR camera as a brilliant ways to analyse their issues? That´s just pathetic.
I don´t think it´s a bad idea at all but why wait for 3 years ,if you are that deep in a mudhole?

I still stand to my word from years ago when the testing ban was instated : Your car has to double up as a testrig this is an inevitable fact as simulations do not correlate to the precision needed to guarantee successful development in this environment .so Friday testing is a vital part to your performance in the season .In consequence your Aero measuring,Tyre analysis must be a design constraint from word go and implemented in your design as a (removable) feature of the machine
itis just laughable to look at those contraptions we are now witnessing all bound to correlate in an environment of unsteadiness ...I wonder how much filtering and guessing is needed to derive any useable information from what is done these days...Looking at the succes of their hard trying to get on top of issues it just speaks for itself if or if not they should reconsider how things are validated.

As usual, stating your crystal-ball opinion as if it's established fact. You see a new sensor on the car and somehow that means the team is "desperate" and "unstructured"? So, when Merc doesn't do something, you say they're pathetic. And when they do, you say they're pathetic for taking so long.

Where were you earlier to tell us what three poles and multiple podiums meant? Or does that not follow the narrative you're trying to sell us? Honestly, didn't the mods and Hamilton fans chase this type of biassed tripe out of here months ago?

I'm glad to see sensors on the car. It means we've finally got a group of guys and gals working at Brackley who know they're doing and are slowly but surely eeking out the inherent tire problems of BGP-001 line. Compare that to just 2010s when the problems were piling up and they didn't even have a TD. Thank god. One of the best parts of this season as a Merc fan is the ability to lean back and relax with the knowledge that some of the absolute best engineers in the sport are now fully on the job.

Exactly! I would rather the team try and do things, than do nothing, the prospect of Lowe joining earlier than expected, reassures me that they're trying as hard as possible for success, which can only be a good thing.

The way Brawn is describing Lowe's arrival, and how they should work together strongly suggests Mercedes (Lauda, Mercedes big wigs) wanted to get rid of him immediately. He declined and the contract after selling the team probably means it's up to him to decide when to leave. So they they said: we're bringing your replacements anyway (mainly Lowe but Lauda and Wolff too), deal with it, although you're a "team principal" you're not the one hiring senior technical personnel. Meanwhile Wolff decided it would be disruptive to the team if he didn't back up Brawn.

All this talk about how he (R.B.) wants to see fruits of their work and how Lowe can replace him when he retires. I wonder where P.L. fits in their decision making process. Is he somewhere between Brawn and Bell with a nice title and million euro salary? It's not all waste, he's still bringing all McLaren knowledge and makes one competitor weaker.

i don´t meanto bepedantic ,but MGP alsohad two pole positions if not in grid positions after Monaco ...I see the improvements in qualy but not somuch in the race ,apart from a bit more reliability and not a single race incident yet.
you are of course entitled to your view of things but one would assume the team which had the biggest issues with tyre understanding in the last years -the team that proclaimed it would refrain from adding bits on the car and concentrate on understanding the tyre.
I have admittedly thought it would be a good approach back then but with hindsight it was nothing but smokescreens to
conceal the simple fact the aero department had no windtunnel as it was upgraded.

Even with all the effort no sign of MGP even on terms with the front running teams in terms of tyre understanding -to me
even Force India and Toro Rosso seem to hit the nail with more precision in that area let alone Ferrari and Lotus...
´
My claim is if you don´t win you simply are not trying hard enough (words of Colin Chapman).I don´t claim to have the answers ,but guys -an IR camera mounted to the front wing is not something you need 4 years to come up with when you are in at the deep end. desperate.

What do you need?

IR camera will show them heat transfer under braking, acceleration and turn in. If you want to get on top of degradation and tyre management you use the resources available.
Mercedes using this is not desperation any more Red Bull or Ferrari using flo viz, or heaven forbid an IR camera!!

Lowe is there to replace Brawn when Brawn is ready to leave. He'll basically be Brawn's understudy until Brawn moves on. The team isn't forcing out Brawn, they are just setting in place a succession plan. Toto has stated this. It's pretty straight forward.

from all we know Ross Brawn is obliged to stay with the team for a certain time as part of the sale to DAI.at least thats what I remember what Zetsche said a few years ago .
So my guess would be he does get the moneys for the sale on year by year schedule and only if he is at the helm .this would
explain why DAI is busy looking for replacements and why Ross is not saying no thankyou not for me at this time.
I´d think the date for the final installment of the deal is at the end of this year and we will not see Ross next year.
Mind you Brawn and Fry have pulled a considerable stunt on the likes of Schumacher ,Haug,Zetsche and to a point also Rosberg to fill their pockets using Hondas assets.
I think with hindsight Zetsche would have been happier now if they had sacked the two the moment Dai got full control -this was delayed till next year effectively.
I could be wrong but it really looks like Ross really believed Schumi alone could drag them out of the chaos created by not developing a serious 2010 contender-why else would you hire a legend you call your friend knowing you did not have the team needed to challenge for the top (as most of the workforce had been laid of already early in 2009) ?

Marcrush – I’m not quite sure of your context. You are not criticising them for using an IR camera, other teams have them as well. Are you frustrated it has taken them so long?

With regard to the team, they seem to be settled now. The engineering and operations seem to be better organised and more cohesive. The IR camera is an external indication that they are handling the problem more rigorously than previous years.

Also Toto seems to have a good understanding of the team and knows what he wants to do. That’s a good thing.

Unfortunately the car has the same pedigree with qualification trim much better than race trim. My thoughts are that the underlying improvement to the team will start to show as they deal with these problems, we’ll see greater purpose. I don’t think we can expect a big jump ahead in performance, but we’d see greater professionalism in how they deal with problems. There should be fewer of the operational/reliability glitches that cursed them last year.

So yes it is frustrating that the IR camera has only appeared now, but it is a good that someone in the team is doing something about it.

At least you got that one right, all four TDs and half a dozen other executives are now in place.

To give an idea what is commercially available in small size IR cameras for moderate to really low moneys:

http://www.drs.com/Products/RSTA/PDF/Tamarisk.pdf

that little thing has amazing capability and coupled with some third party software is well capable of performing the job of investigating the temperature distribution on non metal surfaces.
metal and airflows is a different matter ...

People would probably understand better if you used "Game of Thrones", rather than the book title.

Sorry, perhaps I am a saga purist and I dont like to use the name of the first book to mention all of them.
