Lotus E21 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It puzzles is me too...why they re using THIS rounded 'monkey seat' which is clearly originaly designed for the DRD's lower pipe... I'm asking my self the same question as huntresa; how does it help the rear wing ? why a rounded shape instead of a classic but thin one like Ferrari before Monaco ? it's obviously too far from the rear central couling outlet to help it extract hot air better...

Anyway, these are two versions of the monekey seats they used so far. the classic one was only tested in Barcelona winter testing
Image

Third version is very similar to the rounded one andthey mounted it when they tested the complete DRD

this might sound daft but when i see the curves monkey seat i just see the air flow following the path of least resistance and falling off the curved side, could this be what they are trying to do with the curved monkey seat?

No underneath bulge, but the pylons are from configuration nose
It's been a long time since we drove last time, but it has also been a short time at the same time

Doesnt the buldge create downforce ? So on a low downforce track you dont want that extra downforce/drag ?

Nice 'aerodynamicaly' shaped cover on the brake duct : P far better than the classic duct tape

The new thinner nose makes the car look more and more like the red bull, the development concepts/paths of both cars are very similar.
