Now this was the most complete F1 Game:
F1 world grand prix 64:

Released in 1998 it had:
Car setup:
Fuel
Tyres
Wing angles
ride height
compound selections
Damage
Fuel consumption
Weather simulation
pit stops.
It had 5 game modes, and a multiplayer mode too.
Challenge mode accurately replicated events of the 1997 season, like wheels falling off and the player having to drive the car back to the pits.
There were so many challenges and if you beat them all on hard you unlocked more modes.

The challenges were not only fun, they gave you great depth of info into F1, like tyre manufacturers, how each different compound affected your car at different stints and temperatures.
Gearbox failures happened where the player would lose gears.
In 2012 codemasters come out with a game that has piddly little challenges that have no real relevance at all to the 2012 season or any prior to that.
The damage models are very similar between to two games, as is the physics when two cars collide, very wooden and very poor.
I just used to love downshifting and being carefull not to overheat the engine, lose a gear or blow everything, such a good game. F1 2012 offers less in every way except graphics. Save your money.
