Electromagnetic damper?

So, it seems that the damper does work like a VC diff then? The magnets could be used passively. Ok, there is potential to adjust the damping on the fly, but also you could set the damping passively using the magnets as adjusters.

Surely this is not illegal?

Are Ferrari the only team to pursue rotary dampers?

If it is passive then it should be legal. I've looked into the regulation either on this forum or another, I can't recall! As far as I could tell there was no reason why it should be illegal but that doesn't mean the FIA won't ban it anyway (see mass damper :D).

Sauber had the rotary damper when they used the Ferrari engine and Toyota used it for a while, although Ibelieve they have reverted to telescopic damper.

No reason why the innovation wouldn't work on a telescopic damper either?
