You can't really make an accurate rake comparison unless the photos are taken in the exact same conditions.

Yes, you're right, but it seems quite cleary. RB ver+ more rake; Lotus less rake

edit: i think that the photo is shot almost in the same point, almost in the same conditions

Lotus had an obvious lower (smaller) rake than everyone else for pretty much the whole year and that's about all what we know on that.

It's the Monaco rear wing. Bigger DRS flap and curved main plane as you say.

Lotus brings new mirrors for more downforce

Post

Lotus brings new mirrors for more downforce - Development blog

Lotus have brought new mirrors to the Hungarian GP, or rather new aerodynamic shells that house the mirrors. The mirrors themselves are regulated to have a minimum area, and all teams are strictly adhering to this very minimum to create the least possible aerodynamic disadvantage. It is for this disruption in airflow that outboard mirrors were introduced a few years ago, only to be banned later on safety reasons.

But, with their location now more or less fixed ahead and above the sidepod entry, it is key to reduce their effect on the car's aerodynamics, or perhaps even design them so they are useful for the aerodynamic efficiency of the rear of the car. Lotus have approach this in a very particular way by making the mirrors somewhat bulbous. While that increases the frontal surface, the narrowing body will help reduce the turbulence behind the mirror.

Even more so, and possibly the reason why Lotus have brought the new mirrors is that its shape now works along with the sidepod's upper surface and its adjacent flow conditioner. Although its exact effects can only be verified by the team, it is clear that such improved flow may help the airflow over the sidepod and slightly increase the efficiency of the rear wing.

Can anyone explain how two cars can run the opposite setups in terms of rake, cause i assume less rake doesnt do the same as more rake.

I would really appreciate if someone could explain rake and ride height phenomenon once and for all, please.

stalling the diffusor? now that's an interesting idea!

Looking at the other(right) mirror, the frontal area is very flat, not at all like the contour lines drawn on the left mirror.

I do tend to agree with the analysis however.

Thanks, Kiril. But I'm still confused about rear ride height. I'll get that in future. At least I do understand the front one. Your F1 Framework is really good and interesting peace. Looking forward to read your F1 Car Setups article. I need that because of rFactor. :)

Are Lotus allowed to do anything on Kimi's car before the reace in therms of solving the setup issue?

Apologies for nitpicking, it's a small thing not car related but it bugs me. Could you correct the team section that pops up on top of the page every time you click this thread? It's about E21 in 2013 and half of these guys are not there any more: Allison, Densham, Tokunaga, Nielsen.

Nick Chester although according to their site they don't have TD  , Martin Tolliday, --?-- , Paul Seaby.

So the aim of those new mirrors is to improve airflow indirectly like I assumed and are not related to the FIA :?: they raced them so that tend to confirm the first hypothesis.
