Lotus E21 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Yeah big changes on the front wing too. Look permanent not just track related.
First time I see a rear wing with a main plate that small.

I have a lot of respect for Lotus but they're not going to get anywhere putting a load of effort into developments they are never going to race.

Interesting front wing. Will be interesting to see if this front wing development will continue on in the next races.

What makes you say they're never going to race it? As for Monza the critical question would by WHY they're not going to use it. After FP they acted as if nothing happened and then: "Lotus shelves long-wheelbase car" - http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/109701

"Desire to be conservative" sounds a bit silly and doesn't say much, "the long-wheelbase car, Lotus is convinced is at least as fast as its predecessor" is much closer to explaining the situation.

'At least as fast as the predecessor' means 'It's not doing what we thought it would'. In the face of Red Bull you can't afford to spin your wheels and that's never going to be anywhere near good enough, but it's better than Ferrari which is.....nothing.

It means no such thing.

With "device" in Spa I thought it was pretty clear (I may be wrong) they didn't use it not because it rained in FP but because there was a possibility of rain in Q/race.

It seemed a beast for being the first time it runs

Maybe embarassing lockage at chichanes but in the faster corners a beast
In SPA they would probably have fought with Vettel

I don't know about Romain, but Kimi had oversteer in Parabolica several times. They need to sort that one out for qualifying.

When you hear a team talk like that then I'm afraid it does because the essential truth is that if it was any good then they would be running it. It's as brutally clear as that.

They're not using that here either, and these are items they are spending significant amounts of time and money on, neither of which they have much of.

but if they succeed with setting up DRD, then this will be the major advantage... :) but the other teams will just copy it

DRD isnt a major advantage, F-Duct was a major upgrade, this is minor and even less almost cause its so hard to setup.
