2014 Engine testing ... or not ....

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

That´s not a LMP1 car, looks certainly like a testbed for the F1 engine with the central exhaust.
It actually looks like it was built to the old GT1 regulations like the Mercedes CLK-GTR etc.

Just to let you know guys, "F150" is the name given to the test mule (the one in the spy photos), and it has nothing to do, in this case, with the F2011.

It´s not a name given to the testmule, it´s the project name for the LaFerrari street car.

Red even. And enough space for KERS, HERS & 4 passengers.
Interesting prototype, are those front lights and that rear tray legal with this year's regulations? Ferrari seem to be taking to the extremes, i guess they are sick of nearly winning the x'ships.

Looks like they added a central exhaust outlet too.

Note radiator exits also, it looks like it a complete drivetrain installation.

Forgive me because I know nothing about LMP1 rules - but if this was what they were doing, why would they use a single central exhaust? Is that usual/beneficial for that formula (strikes me that it probably isn't).

Depends on engine type. Turbo engines with single turbo like the Audi R18 uses center exhaust.

Ah OK, makes sense that it could be then :)

Maybe I missed something, but last year Audi used blown diffuser, how is it possible with a central exhaust?

I was pointing out the exhaust location as indicative of the car being an F1 test mule. The 2014 F1 exhaust regs stipulate centerline, high exhaust position. And that's exactly what they are running, despite the 4 fake tips they left on the car.

In LMP, when they actually start getting ready for that, I would wager they find a more creative exhaust solution?

Forgot about that. But wasnt it only the "longtail" versions who used blown diffusers?? Anyways the older R18's used central exhaust.

And in the longtail version, they splitted the exhaust to point behind the wheel arches to decrease the drag.
