look again, also on the other tweeted image, seems to be the same section; maybe you will see what I mean, don't think of the decals/paint scheme...miguelalvesreis wrote:The way the photo was taken can be misleading but, I was looking at the reflections of the lights.FrukostScones wrote:not like that I think,

Yes, maybe you're right. One of the light reflections is trapezoidal on the horizontal axis and if there was a drop curved surface, the reflection would follow it.FrukostScones wrote:look again, also on the other tweeted image, seems to be the same section; maybe you will see what I mean, don't think of the decals/paint scheme...miguelalvesreis wrote:The way the photo was taken can be misleading but, I was looking at the reflections of the lights.FrukostScones wrote:not like that I think,

Don´t get fooled by the livery. The tub is consistent across it´s length until it reaches the tub where the driver sits.miguelalvesreis wrote:[/img]It seems so!DM0407 wrote:Maybe this is a dumb observation but, does the right hand side (picture) seem to slope down but the middle section stays almost the same height?

It may 'be legal only if it is added to the tip as caterham

There are a couple of issues though:
-Crash test-wise you will issues getting through. there's very few volume to deaccelerate.
-It pushes the boundaries of the technical rules to the uttermost extremities. It's doubtful the FIA will accept it; Charlie just might bring out a technical clarification that inmediately bans this.
-There's a certain regulatory box behind 50mm behind the nose tip. It needs to have a projected surface of 9000m² at that point and inbetween 135mm and 250mm above the reference plane. This will leave you with a 78.26mm (thanks Somers for the calculations) wide nose at that point. You definitely want symmetry on both sides, else you will get downforce and airflow differences between both sides of the car. I used the vanity panel in my idea to circumvent the rules and get symmetry, but as the nose has to be 78.26mm, so will have the vanity to be. Those are very thick "nose/vanity pylons". I'm just going to note here that splitting the structural nose in 2 normally isn't allowed, but IF Lotus did found a way to circumvent that and can legally explain a splitted nose, both sides can be 39,13mm.
Personally, I doubt that Lotus tried this. They got passed the crash tests, so whatever they have now is allowed to race. I don't see the FIA just allowing this, except if they allowed less extreme types of noses before and were now either forced to allow this one as well or ban all the different types.
