McLaren MP4-29 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

That's last years wing which is why it is mounted weird. Looking at the sketches and 3D model with a legal 2014 wing you can see it is not connected.

It´s hovering just above or behind the suspension arm.

I think the likes of Force India, Williams, Caterham and Marussia just choked after looking at Mclaren and Lotus launch their cars... I mean for launch spec cars the detail level is crazy. The other seem so blah...

I dont expect much different from Caterham and Marussia. Scarbs has pretty much spelt out what Caterham's solution is...

So now that i've seen a little more.... Wow that Car is stunning. Well everything except the Monstrous Hot Air Outlet. ^^

I'm kinda glad they changed back to Push Rod. The Nose is actualy pleasing. After the high Chassis Experiment with the 28 they went back to a low Chassis which they know how to handle.

Looks very Promising.

Another beautiful Car by Macca. 8) 8)

the rear suspension looks already like the one rumored by Omnicorse. The rear suspension which is concipated to act as virtual beam wing.

set up looks a bit strange, but maybe it was the perspective...

My favourite car so far, it seems extra shiny this year, possibly due to the Ron Dennis effect. :)

"3.7.8
Only a single section, which must be open, may be contained within any longitudinal vertical cross section taken parallel to the car centre line forward of a point 150mm ahead of the front wheel centre line, less than 250mm from the car centre line and more than 125mm above the reference plane."
How do they not? What makes up the second cross section?

Racecar Engineering wrote:Whilst it looks the rear wing is mounted to the wishbone directly that is an optical illusion, the wing is supported by a central pillar mounted onto an interesting semi circular feature above the transmission.

With oval shape, is a wing of 30% efficiency . Concept Ellipse wing ->

Seems to be the best nose solution so far.

Can the heat venting area which we're seeing is a bit larger than before be made into a wing of sorts?

To be more precise, it's about a single open section.
The FIA says:

"1.20 Open and closed sections :
A section will be considered closed if it is fully complete within the dimensioned boundary to which it is referenced, if it is not it will be considered open."

At the line in red in the picture it could be that the section is closed, but probably i'm wrong and it just looks like that.

Dear FIA, if you read this, please pm me for a redesign of the Technical Regulations to avoid finger nose shapes for 2016! :-)
