McLaren MP4-29 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

"...and there, very much in flames, is Jacques Laffite's Ligier. That's obviously a turbo blaze, and of course, Laffite will be able to see that conflagration in his mirrors... he is coolly parking the car somewhere safe." Murray Walker, San Marino 1985

Is it me or do the rear arms appear different (without "aero neutral" shroud)
If consistently being 7/10ths faster than you is a "mind game", then yes Jenson, Lewis was playing "games" with you.

Not the best comparison, but they were the best pics of diffuser flow-vis that I could find.

So are there any reports on the Heat Management on the 29? From what i've seen it looks solid.
So can we expect they tighten down these huge Cannon exits til Australia? FI already stated they will shrink their Bodywork in the first few Races.

It's quite interesting how they've made the brake ducts direct the flow towards the rear butterflies to drive them even harder.

Good spot. They certainly look to be doing that. Some of the teams keep the brake ducts flow back and up. Red Bull tries to send the flow up and outward to help with the diffuser edges moving outward at exit. Mclaren almost seem to be forcing it inwards.

I wonder whether now that ALL noses have been declared legal whether McLaren will contemplate a nose similar to the W05? or at least a variation of their own nose that then resembles W05, giving them potentially even more air from the front.
