Some tracks they will use all, other tracks they won't. As I understand it the engines power band is over a much wider rev range in comparison to the peaky V8's, so getting gears bang on so that you always stay at the right point of the power curve isn't such an issue.George77 wrote:Why the have 8 gears if they can not exploit all of them?
It wont be with a conventional layshaft stepped ratio box thats for sure.Cold Fussion wrote:http://s29.postimg.org/cycq3y60l/image000003.jpg
This image from Cosworth demonstrates pretty well why the gearing wont be a huge issue.
It would be nice if you could tell, where this is from.Cold Fussion wrote:http://s29.postimg.org/cycq3y60l/image000003.jpg

no it's not. It is from "race engine technology". Issue #072. And I know it, because I uploaded that graph (and 2 others) on the intercooler thread: http://www.f1technical.net/forum/viewto ... 42#p478542Cold Fussion wrote:http://www.f1technical.net/forum/viewto ... =4&t=17720rscsr wrote:It would be nice if you could tell, where this is from.Cold Fussion wrote:http://s29.postimg.org/cycq3y60l/image000003.jpg

It's from racecar engineering magazine.
Really? And when it's not being assisted? I sure don't read it that way. I don't see it as a broad power band. This image from Cosworth demonstrates pretty well why the gearing wont be a huge issue.
