@astracrazy - I think that the mesh size is probably a critical factor in the discrepancy you are observing. You may want to try a larger mesh size (0.03 for example) to assess how much it impacts on the results...

When the KVRC challenge was started at the end of 2012, it had an aim of being a ground for learning about car racing aerodynamic and CFD modelling. There is a lot of discussion going on through this forum - and I tried doing the odd online video chat. I would be keen to hear of the most appropriate medium to transfer the knowledge and improve all participants knowledge - forum, video conference, website, wiki, reference document, one-on-one sessions?

Hi Julien,

Your one on one sessions with me have been fantastic but I doubt they are the way forward with regards to the competition and participants learning due to time difference and time needed.
A detailed Wiki attached to the website that includes easy step by step instructions, images and videos would be helpful in my opinion.
I have previously used the video you have on YouTube of the Kart simulation and post processing which has been helpful for Paraview.
Something similar, directly related to KVRC (showing specific tunnel settings etc for the comp, reading results, setting up remote analysis, etc) would work best but not in one long video, each topic needs its own video with text instructions on Wiki for easy C&P.
I believe thus would help people with the basics of getting Khamsin installed and setup with third party software and then help people develop their understanding of the plugin and how various changes can be made and what they do (the settings within Khamsin seem a little daunting to me and could do with better and simpler tooltips or guides on a Wiki as to what does what.
A Wiki would also mean the stuff that has been shared in here could be easily passed on in future without the need for someone like me to take the time to search all KVRC threads to quote information in a single roundup post.

I think that the video on YouTube is very clear. Even a "white paper" with a detailed "making of" taking as an example a car and its CFD analysis fot a KVRC race could be a good idea.

In general I think that the KVRC challange could be interesting for single engineers but also for engineering services companies (like mine, even if it is a small one).

Me and Julien are really trying to push PR wise with the competition. If any of you have any press/website contacts please let us know so we can send them a press pack

I've planned to dedicate a page to KVRC on my website... I hope to find a couple of hours to write it!

Following a PM on the subject I thought I should post another chart for Magny Cours to help you guys design yours cars... the lines of equal downforce look quite steep on the Magny Cours chart... which would seem to suggest a low downforce arrangement would be best, however if you take the wings off an F1 car you'll find that the downforce:drag efficiency drops off pretty quick... probably to the point where with no downforce at all the Cd.A is going to be around the 0.9 sort of figure... because an F1 car shape is fairly "draggy" due to the big exposed tyres.

If we take two cars from the Monaco results and plot them on the Magny Cours graph... CSR's high downforce (and higher drag) car compared to LB Racing's Much lower downforce (and lower drag) car . CSR's car would be quicker as shown by the chart.... (I've assumed that both designs have been tweaked to achieve COP = 1.83 without changing the other coefficients)

I would suggest that ideally you would all have three versions of your car (low, medium and high downforce versions) which you could use to help decide how much downforce you need at each race... however, in the absence of that it is worth using the designs of your fellow competitors to help you decide which set up is best for each race.....

Is anyone else having trouble with the portal at the moment?

the usual fix is to use google chrome.

for instance a problem a lot of people think they have is the portal has got stuck, when in fact your file is uploading. Chrome seems to be the only browser which shows this (bottom left)

The site itself is working fine, when I submit it seems to upload properly and I get a confirmation email, but then I'm not getting any further emails with the case files, it just stops there. Started happening about a day ago.

it is a bug we had during race 1 with the portal overall. one thing you could try is using this link
https://cfdapps.appspot.com/results.html?uuid=
then after the = put the submission id number (in the confirmation e-mail)
