McLaren MP4-29 Mercedes

For what it is worth I have looked back through the photo's to try and find similar ones for comparison on the new nose. Obviously unless the angle, focal length, time of day, position of the moon etc etc is the same it is not exact but I found quite close matches to the two images above.

In this one I overlaid the old nose, most of the fixed points are matching. eg. camera pod, chassis mount holes, end of nose etc.
Image

It seems that there is a steeper drop in the nose down to the tip where the Mercedes logo is, as the nose behind is higher.

In this one the angle is lower on the new nose but a basic comparison can be made. I put a line across where the top of the wing is. The differing angles will make the area above the line look larger than it is, but they have still increased the area.

Image

Not sure if the nose appendage has become thinner in diameter or if the length change has made it look that way, the hole in the tip looks larger if the tip is the same size. Were they over the allowed nose tip area before?
The nose has gained some height, I think becoming more similar to Torro Rosso's nose, just with a squarer rather than arched profile.

The d... appendage is indeed thinner - you can see it from the way the Mercedes logo is layed out. Seems longer too, but that might just be the angle of the photo.

An overlayed comparison between the two versions is a good idea, but I just can't see it in the picture you posted. There was someone around this forum that made good comparisons like that. Though I can't remember who that person was at the moment.

The Nose Tip itself looks thinner to me. Hopefully the Cap doesn't fall off anymore. ^^
Someone hand them abit of Matte Black Paint to hide the Nose Tip and we will be good.

No idea why I did it white #-o , I have now made it flourescent green if that helps  .

I think the appendage looks longer too, it appears taller than it is wide also. You would hope they would use the same size logo's, just to help us compare.Where the number is there is a 'kink' rather than a uninterrupted curve, the top of the nose then looks flatter going forwards of that.

Isn´t that nose very similar to the caterham one? A triangular leading edge, then "the dong" hanging out from it. At least in concept it appears pretty much the same.

not really, in concept and design I think...

on the Caterham the Penis is not just an added extension but a "real" part of the nose/crashstructure. With the real nose hidden by that giant (and beautiful  )vanity panel except fpr the protruding tip/Penis.
The Penis extensions on all other cars are only structural weak Penis extensions attached to the crashstructure that are sometimes addtionally covered with a vanity panel (Findia).
Aerodynamically and technically I think this McLaren solution is more Toro Rosso (or Findia but the have a higher nose and bulkhead and use a vanity panel afaik).
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

I think it is closer to the Force India nose:

Could someone explain the sidepod cooling concept McLaren have gone for and the advantages of it. The angle of the radiators is very different to most of the other cars.

Ron Dennis said "for a variety of reasons"

That can include Setup refinement and many other Stuff, not just new Aero Parts.
