Isn't it an old video?Caerdroia wrote:A ferrari video but relevant to the discussion about Merc's fuel. They ran a test using their usual race fuel and then normal road fuel. Rough estimations were road fuel was 1 second a lap slower, with problems with the pickup. Alonso says he felt the power was the same, and that the pickup problems could at least partly be solved with the engine maps.

Not sure why this got a down vote because...n smikle wrote:An F1 car can be run on gas from your local neighbourhood pump, so I'm not expecting too much "magic" between fuels.
Does it matter that it is an old video?atlantis wrote:Isn't it an old video?Caerdroia wrote:A ferrari video but relevant to the discussion about Merc's fuel. Absolutely no. I just thought it was relevant to the new engines regulationsShakeman wrote:Does it matter that it is an old video?atlantis wrote:Isn't it an old video?Caerdroia wrote:A ferrari video but relevant to the discussion about Merc's fuel. There maybe a difference between road fuel and racing fuel but there is unlikely to be that difference between racing fuels from different manufacturers. If there is then Petronas has a big lead.
I don't think your right there. Your looking at the wet quali's i guess? But in dry quali it wasn't too different, they werent more than a sec clear - only in the race.De Jokke wrote:I read some comments about that the W05 hasn't got a weak spot but I'm afraid we've already seen it: wet track.
As the car is more than a sec. clear in dry weather, it's all been whiped out in wet weather. How come? Any one any ideas? Can they fix that?
Indeed, the Quali's. I hope you're right but I'm not too sure. In dry we're fast and in the race too. In wet we're slow (compared to dry pace) and I assume this will continue in the race too. Seems like the car is so gentle on the tyres in dry weather, maybe it can't heat them enough in wet weather? Hence the performance drop of almost a sec. ?astracrazy wrote:I don't think your right there. Your looking at the wet quali's i guess? Mercs strength is race pace so i would expect them to pull away in a wet race too.
We will just have to wait and see
Interesting but is that the whole reason Merc are 1 second up the road?Emerson.F wrote:Sky Sports F1 2014: How Mercedes become so strong in 2014

The FI's were already on 7 laps old tires. Merc extended their first stint and second stint a bit and changed tires around the start of the SC period. That plays a small role as well.Shakeman wrote:I was watching the highlights of BAH again and noticed at the safety car restart from an onboard of one of the FIs that the two Merc just disappeared in seconds. With all that extra power they've also managed to transmit that through the tyres into the road without turning the tyres into smoking hoops. The issues Merc had last year with tyres is now gone (notwithstanding the tyres are more durable) and they appear to be better or at least as good as other teams on tyre life and performance. Can anyone see what they've done?
The car also appears to be pretty good in the fast corners too so their aero is also not letting them down either and it appears to be an 8 or 9 in most areas and it's the sum of its parts that is making the big difference.

More specifically, it's weak spot is turn in. It appears to have a fairly weak front end, especially in low speed corners.De Jokke wrote:I read some comments about that the W05 hasn't got a weak spot but I'm afraid we've already seen it: wet track.

Wasn't that their strength last year, slow corners? You reckon they have lost it with W05?beelsebob wrote:More specifically, it's weak spot is turn in. Their strength last year was exiting slow corners. They still appear to be fairly good at that, but their entry to them is terrible. The car just does not want to turn in.prince wrote:Wasn't that their strength last year, slow corners?
