I don't mind hearing a bit of confidence about the upgrade package, it means it's large enough for them to think its a significant improvement to the car, whether that can be said about the lap time is a different matter.
Just a fan's point of view

Anyways the reason I posted is... how do Mobil1 develop fuel? I'm pretty sure they have no access to the Merc engine. If they're doing it all through computer simulation and past experience.... sheesh! No wonder they're behind Petronas.
I do not think they did not have one before. But they had obviously a completely different, very stiff suspension on the 2012 car. In 2013 they went for more rake and a soft rear suspension. This makes another sort of interconnected suspension necessary. One which controls the front height on the straights to keep the splitter from hitting the ground too much, but just having it touching the ground. Redbull is perfect on this...
So, it is nothing that is not obvious that they have a new suspension since 2013. You can see it by looking at the different aero-solution/rake.
You're talking about different setup philosophies, not different types of suspension. All the large teams have been running interconnected suspensions for a fair few years, but Merc is the only one proven to have the large amount of hydraulic wizardry,so far.
Well, it is hard to discuss this if you do not have a clue about the different hydraulic tweaks and that there are many completely different types of interconnected suspensions...
It is just a fact, that you would never use the front lifting suspension if you not need to do it for the rake, because it compromises the rest of the suspension. And if you do, you need a completely different design of the interconnected suspension.
As I said: The only ones who are really good at this are Merc and Redbull and this makes their aero work so good, that they are nearly a second ahead of the rest of the field with their chassis. And I do not see a difference in Merc's and Redbull's solutions. Both have front height control and roll stability at a very high level without compromising the rest too much.

Too confident in my opinion. They should focus on beating FI regularly and not on catching RB. I hope that this is not going to be a story like "we'll be .5s faster in Malaysia". A good small step is what i expect.
+1
I also expect a small step, just the normal development. A big step could come from a big fault, but this would be ridiculous as they would not have solve this issue much too long...

Well that was to be expected as the Major Upgrade Package was always planned for Austria AND Silverstone. So hit the Road with a Part of the Package to check if Wind Tunnel/CFD Correlation is ok and even keep some Parts on the Car in Austria to get the full Package up and running at Silverstone.

Looking forward to Spot all the Updates, should keep us busy this Weekend. ^^

Trying to actually spot them you mean....based on their "updates" so far this season...
Favourite driver: Lando Norris

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

A "part of a major Upgrade Package" is no new Car. Many People expect way to much when they hear the Word Update. I expect some visible changes. No new Nose, no new Radiator Arrangement paired with completely new Sidepods and a new cooling Layout or whatever is speculated.

I was hoping to see a new front wing but I guess we won't.

Eric Boullier

Racing director, McLaren Mercedes

“Jenson’s fine fourth place in Canada was more the result of some great team strategy calls and a hungry and opportunistic drive from Jenson himself than an improvement in the overall pace of our car. Kevin drove very well in Montreal, too, although his race was thwarted by traffic and ill luck. Still, it’s a mark of the strength of the organisation that we can achieve results like these at a track where it’s often easy to falter.

“Nonetheless, we’re still not where we need to be. Since the beginning of the season, we’ve stated that we need to bring more downforce to the car. Of course, that’s a constantly moving target – for this weekend, however, we'll be evaluating a number of short- and long-term performance steps. It’s still too early to feel confident about calling them raceable options – it’s more about evaluating their applicability at the circuit than simply hoping they’ll improve lap-time. Nonetheless, we hope the steps will pave the way for an improvement.

“I’m looking forward to a challenging but successful weekend in Austria. It’s good news to see a new, albeit historic, European venue added to the calendar, and everybody will be hoping that this weekend’s event is a successful one.”

We can only speculate at this moment in time, but McLaren have stated that it will be front to back upgrades, so I will be very disappointed not to see visual upgrades, I think they have had enough time to redesign the sidepod's and radiator's respositioned. But we could see these at this grand prix or the following one at silverstone, either way let's just hope McLaren keep moving forward.

Yes at Silverstone we can expect the complete Package and i'm sure there will be lots of Updates. But for Austria i am slightly cautious, just to be even happier when they bring more than i expected. ^^

Also a nice Interview with EB about why McLaren needs the Changes they're going through right now:

I like EB more and more every day, he seems like an honest Guy.

To be honest McLaren is kind of confusing. First they state that the big update package will give them a fair improvement. And 1 week later they say that there is no guarantee that the updates are raceable.

I don't want to moan too much because there is no guarantee that the updates are non-raceable but this is kind of confusing

My take is that the marketing team want to put out positive, reassuring, messages to keep the fans happy but the racing team want a bit more honesty to avoid false hope whilst highlighting that they haven't given up. This is leading to inconsistent and sometimes vague messages.
