Oh my.... That crane must weight around 7 Tons, and it´s lifted with the impact. Now I´m a lot more worried about Jules

Can´t count the times I´ve wondered why they don´t use for track cranes the same bumpers that are used on road trucks, don´t know the exact name in english but here you can see it at the lateral of the truck

Image

I know that´s a rigid structure and deceleration will be terrible, but this way it´s the car what will receive first impact, not driver´s head.

I really hope Jules gets over this accident, but sincerely, after watching the video I can´t be too optimistic

That's a good point and what i thought as well...
Education is that which allows a nation free, independent, reputable life, and function as a high society; or it condemns it to captivity and poverty.

Part of the reason the tractor jumped up so high is that it was holding Sutil's car on the other end. But still you are right about the severity of the accident...

You can't use the same bumpers as on road trucks because it isn't a bumper on the digger, it's a counterweight

it's a counterweight, it's a solid piece of 3-4 inch thick metal set at a specific weight designed to balance the crane when the boom is extended with a load on

Using Movie Maker, I have estimated speed of impact as under 60Mph
Can anyone confirm?

That is the proof that the thing that needs changing are the double yellow waved flag rules to force drivers to really slow down.

After seeing the video, I am totally shocked
The crane was going backwards at the moment, If it happened just moments later, he could have been decapitated!
and the marshal was lucky enough!

I imagine the thoughts he would have when he was just a passenger heading to the crane.... horrific

Yellow, Double waved: Reduce your speed, do not overtake and be prepared to change direction or stop
They just need to clarify and enforce that.

Double yellow is the fastest way to signal serious danger, a safety car (and I assume red flag) has to go through Charlie
a few seconds could mean several cars passing

i'm brought to tears on seeing that car slam straight into that caterpillar :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:

that is insane, i've NEVER seen something like this, ever. I'd say singlehandedly this is the worst accident i've seen well, obviously since senna and ratzenberger in F1 but the impact looks even more horrifying than senna's to be honest, man,
that was just inches away from decapicitation :wtf: . A slam into the wheel of that truck would have been instant fatal, too.

how on earth wasn't there a safety car for this crash was beyond me straight after Sutil's crash......

but indeed how did jules speed off straight into there, Sutil stated he went off similar as he, so i'd suppose that would remove the possibility he made a 360 degree spin headfirst into the recovery vehicle.

My god that 7-ton caterpillar isn't just lifted up but slammed aside, the entire top crash structure and airbox is just completely sheered off. How on earth did he survive this?

i did not imagine the impact to be this insanely brutal. Maria de Villota died from 'lesser'. I can't believe this.

I'm afraid to say this but we have just been stolen an upcoming F1 great in the form of Jules Bianchi. I can't believe I remembered him sitting cleaning his helmet after first shutdown and now he's.....well.....essentially, gone. :wtf:

whatever the outcome, he'll never ever race again, i think he can be lucky if he can communicate ever in his 'life' again.
whoever tries to say F1 today is for wussies and doesn't hold danger can just suck it now. my god this is insane.

i'm.......in total shock...... :wtf: :wtf:   :( :(

Meanwhile, regarding the fact Massa begged 5 laps in advance of the accident for the race to be shut down, I think it's safe to say circumstances were enough the race should have been ended. It started raining worse and worse, visibility was down through rain but even more; through darkness. I think jules ran out of luck ,visibility and in confusion....it became worst place at worst time ever.....

while also sending off 4 Hamilton players to make it more interesting"

That short sequence when he cleaned his helmet was one of the first things I remembered right after the crash...
I think he has a chance to full recovery although I'm not a doctor...
