In concord agreement the rule for 3 rd car applies only when the total team goes below 8
Then by default teams are obliged to run a 3rd car
We have 11 teams now, I don't know how they would remove 3 teams from that
And frankly there are only garage for 24 teams in majority of the circuits
So consider with the 11 teams the top 8 teams run a third car, then we will have a grid of 30 cars in a race

It's not about removing 3 teams, it's about 3 teams maybe naturally disappearing. Caterham are almost certain to disapear at this point. Marussia may be safe, if they can hang onto their current WCC 9th position. Sauber have a good chance of disappearing. Lotus have a good chance of disappearing. Force India also have rumours of serious money issues.

Basically, there's a good chance that a decent number of F1 teams won't have enough money to make the grid next year.

For the past 15 yrs I have been watching f1, I have heard that a thousand times, sure there were teams who left the grid. But I have never seen the total team strength go below 10 in the last 2 decades

That's the rule for an obligation to race 3 cars. The way Berni has whipped up so much conversation about 3 car teams in the next season or two makes me wonder if he's hoping the teams will voluntarily agree to 3 for some teams. Ten teams would leave 4 spare garage spaces, hence 3 cars for the top 4 teams.

Woudn't that make it a two tier competition? Teams with 3 cars obviously gain in Constructors more than 2 car teams. That would be tricky situation and to counter that, you have to add more rules, meaning more complex mathematics. I am too poor in operating a calculator, if that is what happens.

To me, it is either all with three cars or status quo. But I would prefer 3 car top teams, instead of nuisance of back markers. That would be good for the show and good for potential driver talent. Imagine, all of a sudden if Bernie declares it as 3 car competition for next year. The whole silly season would catapult into total mad rush to bag drivers.

A 3 car team of Rosberg, Hamilton and Alonso seems a masterstroke in my view. I'd pay to watch these 3 race the same machines!

That would be one hell of a coup if they pulled that off for Honda McLaren for 2015
