Do all teams use water cooled intercoolers now?

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Do all teams use water cooled intercoolers now?

in the team's 3d pic, all engine have a huge intercooler in the side pod, but in the real photo, looks like no one have it, is all team using water intercooler?

Only ferrari engines using water air intercooler

Lotus may have used a water air inter cooler but not sure.

All other teams using air - air intercoolers

Mercedes W05: water-air - the intercooler is 'integrated' to the monocoque... somewhere between the engine and the fuel cell, very close to the compressor.
Lotus: water-air - low in the left sidepod.
Ferrari cars: water-air - placed in the engine's 'V'
RBR, STR and Caterham: different air-air intercoolers, one in each sidepod
IMO Williams* and FI use an air-air Intercooler (left sidepod) while Mclaren use two...
*But some people say the Fw-36 now uses a water-air one place low between the monocoque and the engine...

Are we about the Mercedes statements/blogs above?

I've also seen it stated/claimed (in RET, I think) that they use both water : air (hi temp, with the main coolant circuit providing the water) AND then by air : air (lo temp, in side pod).

It seems logical to me because it could possibly give an aero advantage?

Thoughts?

This looks like an ar-to-air intercooler to me, MHPE engine in the McLaren?

Q; Are the customer-teams free to select intercooler solution?

The customer teams all come up with their own cooling solution.

Mercedes works team appear to have by the far the best solution though, though that is true on most aspects of the Mercedes car this year.

I struggle to see how the main cooling circuit can serve an air to water charge cooler, the engines likely run at over 100deg C. Thats not going to cool the charge air very efficiently.

That looks like a liquid to air heat exchanger. The top tank and the pipework are too small for high volume flow.

I hope the water coming back from the radiators is much cooler than that...
I suspect the water coming out of the charge cooler then goes to the engine.
As a previous commenter wrote, doing some additional air to air charge cooling after the initial air to water may have advantages.

You are correct of course, I think I was blinded by the central manifold, but why the multiple in- or outlets, is that typical?

Is that, from top to bottom, two radiators, oil + water, and one intercooler, but the connection for the latter looks skinny?

I'm confused, anyone?

If I count the inputs and outputs, I see three: a very small one up top, then two further coolers about the same size, with the ports of the third on the lower corner. So, my guess is that they are top to bottom: electronics, intercooler and engine. I'm sure I'm wrong so please correct me :-)

A different angle on Bottas' sidepod.
