Williams FW37 Mercedes Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It looks like the crash structure sticks out of the top of the sidepod where the turning vane connects.

Good catch. The side impact crash structure got lengthened in 2014. By having smaller sidepods the crash structure is now just sticking out of the sidepod.

Maybe too early to judge, but this car looks very promising to me...Definitely an evolution from last car...I just hope they were able to improve the rear downforce.

Yeah, at first glance I didn't realize the sidepods were really that much slimmer than the 2014 car.

Interesting that they didn't decide to use the merc/Ferrari camera placement. Guess it just doesn't fit with rest of the aero but I was kinda expecting most teams to follow suit this year (shoes what I know! Lol)

is it me or does the diffuser look aggressive?
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

I don't see anything special about the diffuser.

I do believe the rear crash structure has a more agressive "S" shape like the RB10, maybe we will see a double monkey seat in the near future?

so did the blacked-out 'cold scared willie' version head-on, too:

Image

and a vanity panel one, which i assume would be A) in conflict with rules and B) in conflict with aerodynamic benefits,
but it's a good view to see what the FIA probably intended to see

Image

interestingly, the final 'vanity panel' version, looks exactly like a proposition / concept back in 2013 on how the 2014 noses could look like;

Not too good news about the Williams;
New nose rules a 'headache' - Symonds

Williams' technical chief admits the team has had to make substantial changes to the car for 2015 due to the new nose rules.

The Grove team managed a sensational leap last year from ninth in the championship in 2013 to third, behind only Mercedes and Red Bull.

Some of that leap was undoubtedly due to using the field-leading Mercedes engine, but Williams also comfortably beat the other two Mercedes customers, McLaren and Force India.

But for 2015, team technical boss Pat Symonds has admitted the 2014 concept had to be substantially changed in order to accommodate the new nose rules.

The FIA reacted to the unseemly anteater-style noses of last year by tidying up the regulations, and on the cover of the British magazine F1 Racing it is now clear the front of the 2015 Williams is substantially different.

"The change in regulations offered us a slight headache," Symonds admitted on Wednesday.

"The new front bulkhead and nose geometry had much more of an impact than we had initially anticipated and the effect on the aero was profound
," he said.

The new FW37 has a smaller, flatter and lower nose than its predecessor, albeit still with a stubbly protrusion. ( :lol: )

Symonds said: "The team have worked hard on pulling back the deficit these regulations have made for us."

Seems like Williams have run in some bad luck here. I don't expect AMG Merc to have the same amount of deficit compared to the '14 nose as it seems Williams admits having. Let's see the other's solutions, though.
But anyway, I was hoping Williams could have made another step forward this year, but it seems like they've had to
deal with getting atleast back to where they were in 2014 after the 2015 rule changes seems to give them a significant 'step back'.....
